Position Summary:
The Environmental Engineer will be responsible for the overall environmental direction in their facility as well as other duties as assigned by the Manager – Plant Engineering. This includes directing activities required to ensure compliance with applicable regulations covering air emissions, waste generation and disposal, stormwater pollution prevention, chemical reporting and DOT Hazmat shipments.
Within the duties of Manufacturing Engineer, create and coordinate the implementation of new or improved manufacturing processes. Responsible for various engineering assignments ranging from feasibility studies to the introduction of designs and drawings to Manufacturing. A liaison to coordinate activities of Engineering and Manufacturing Departments.
Accountabilities:
Provide technical support and guidance to facility management on environmental
issues.
Implement inspections, recordkeeping, training and reporting to comply with all
conditions in the facility’s IEPA issued air permit.
Identity all waste streams or by-products generated by normal or abnormal facility
operations. Arrange for proper disposal or recycling as required by applicable
regulations to minimize long term liability to the Company.
Conduct all training, inspections, recordkeeping and reporting required for
managing all wastes generated.
Review activities conducted at the facility which could have an impact on
stormwater run-off. Implement appropriate programs, training, inspections,
sampling and reporting to comply and minimize liability or potential for off site
contamination.
Collect data and prepare reports as needed under the EPCRA requirements for
hazardous materials stored or released in the course of conducting business
activities at the site.
Implement training, recordkeeping and documentation as required to comply with
DOT requirements for the preparation and shipment of hazardous materials.
Prepare the Facility Environmental Plan each year, review with the local
management team and direct it’s implement.
Support and implement MBCI and Fortune Brands environmental programs as
needed.
Identify and drive projects which reduce the environmental impacts of the facility’s
operations. This includes projects which reduce the volume or toxicity of wastes, the
cost of their disposal and/or the long/short term liability associated with off site
handling of those wastes.
Analyzes, develops and recommends design approaches necessary to meet
production requirements for new or improved products and/or processes.
Analyze existing operating methods and initiate and develop new method to
improve economy and quality.df-dg |
